3 Ways to Stylishly Wear a Scarf

This publication is also available in: Français English (UK) Deutsch Italiano Español

The scarf is the must-have fashion accessory for a winter look.

And while we see them in all colors, materials, and styles, it’s not always obvious how to dress well with a scarf. Because, let’s face it, we’ve all found ourselves in front of the mirror desperately trying to find the right combination to tie our scarf without looking like an Inuit. Among the winter trends, the shawl is undoubtedly the fashion accessory that can twist an outfit, as long as you know how to wear it.

That’s what we’re going to show you in this article. A fashion lesson awaits. Stay with us, we’re sharing 3 ways to wear a scarf to be stylish and do it easily.

A scarf, multiple styles: which model to choose this winter 2023?

Plaid scarf, silk scarf, oversized scarf, wool scarf, printed scarf, cotton scarf… there isn’t one that looks like the other. It’s not always easy to make an appropriate choice, especially since each shawl has its own identity in terms of style, and thus its own way of being worn.

To make your task easier, here are the types of scarves that are currently working very well and are trending.

First, we have the oversized scarf. Deliberately opulent, this type of scarf embodies maximalism and cocooning. In an oversized scarf, we love to wrap ourselves up, feel warm, and be able to cover ourselves easily. They are generally chosen in a noble material like wool. It’s the perfect fashion accessory to layer over an oversized coat such as a trench coat, a long coat, or even a puffer jacket. And it’s a great opportunity to practice layering.

Next, the plaid scarf remains a safe bet in terms of style. Timeless, it has dressed stylish girls for years. Thanks to its soft material and check pattern, it balances between comfort and elegance, inevitably adding a little twist to a winter look. While the plaid scarf is generally long, you can also find medium-sized and thinner ones. In this case, you can carry it into the season by wearing it until the end of winter or the beginning of spring for those chilly mornings.

Finally, we have a type of scarf that is still relatively unknown but has recently emerged from the closet of the 2000s thanks to our fashion icon, Bella Hadid. She was recently seen wearing a very thin and long scarf borrowed from the Y2K style. This type of piece is very promising for winter 2023 and should quickly find its way into the wardrobes of fashionistas.

Wearing a scarf beautifully: 3 options to choose from

Effortless style: to look stylish without trying with a scarf

This is the trendiest way to wear a scarf this winter, and perhaps the most practical. In an effortless version, the scarf is worn naturally, a bit carelessly, without tying it around a turtleneck sweater or over a big long coat. And that’s the paradox of the effortless style. It represents a form of nonchalance, but its stylistic composition is executed with care.

Let one end of your scarf hang in front or belt it at the waist.

With this version, you’ll sport a style that’s more cozy than elegant. In this case, you can easily pair this fashion accessory with a pair of sneakers, boots like Chunky Boots, the rising trend of winter footwear, or even a pair of fur-lined boots like Uggs for a 100% comfy look. And when it comes to pants, nothing is more pleasant to wear than a good pair of Levi’s 501 in a straight or boyfriend cut.

Tying your scarf for an elegant look

For a bit more elegance, you can opt for other knots, perhaps a little less trendy than the effortless version, but still easy to achieve and modern.

For example, there is a simple knot. Just take one end of your scarf and wrap it around your neck so that both ends fall in front.

Another option is the folded version. For that, simply fold your scarf in half and pass one end through the other. Plaid scarves, silk scarves, wool scarves, printed scarves, or cotton scarves work very well for this type of knot.

Cape style: a bold way to wear a scarf

If you’re looking for a more original way to wear a scarf while being stylish, go for the cape-style knotting. The idea is simple; you just need to take a long and thick scarf, unfold it, and place it over your shoulders. Then take a belt, tie it around your waist, and let the remaining ends hang down.

Your scarf then becomes a true fashion piece that is accessorized. You’ll showcase a well-crafted and chic look. With flared jeans and tall boots, your look will be urban and chic. However, prefer this type of outfit for sunny days and/or sunny winter days.
