While it is customary to associate fringe with western-inspired outfits or biker jackets, in 2026, these are breaking more than ever from clichés to make their mark on the runways. And between glamorous attire and everyday wardrobe, let’s discover today how the fringe trend wants to establish itself this spring!

The Bold Comeback of the Fringe Trend

There is no better place to catch a whiff of upcoming fashion trends, aside from the runways, than on the red carpets of film festivals and other ceremonies of the 7th art. Indeed, while Venice teased us with the first silhouettes designed by Jonathan Anderson for Dior, the latest cinema events have confirmed the anticipated return of the fringe trend this spring.

We can particularly mention the Ahluwalia dress worn by Wunmi Mosaku at the BAFTAs last night. This dress, in addition to adopting fringe in a graphic manner, was revealed in the color of the season predicted by Pinterest.

Moreover, last January, among all the fashion moments that marked the Golden Globe ceremony, Renate Reinsve stood out as the queen of the evening in a strapless gown designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton. This gown, made of 800,000 pearls arranged on 2,900 fringes, required 2,840 hours of work, and the result was simply spectacular.

On the runway side, the fringe trend has proven its versatility, both in its appearance and in how it integrates into wardrobes. Adding dimension, texture, and volume, these fine strips have challenged the imagination of designers this season to make this detail—sometimes mocked—a fashion asset, both retro and modern. And let’s just say there’s something for every taste!

Fringe in All Cuts and Materials

One thing is for sure, in 2026, fringes are revealing themselves with flair! While some incorporate them in a rather traditional and minimalist way, with leather cutouts (Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein), others explore materials more deeply, thus giving the silhouette a festive, even playful touch.

Among the creative explorations that have marked us at the beginning of this year, we think of Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta. With dresses, jackets, and skirts showcasing fringes that redefine silhouettes and movements.

Additionally, Pierpaolo Piccioli’s inaugural collection at Balenciaga has integrated fringed details through various approaches and materials. Incorporated in certain areas of the silhouette, they balance the shapes and add tonal details.

An innovation quest has also been observed in the latest collections. On one hand, at Dior, with a bag featuring fringes as long as a train and in grass green, unveiled for Anderson’s first Haute Couture collection (not to mention his grass coat made for LOEWE that had us fascinated).

The same goes for Alaïa by Pieter Mulier, where we discovered tights covered in fringes, immediately adding a dramatic touch to the stride.

Feathers as an Alternative to Fringes?

Traditional fringes, as we understand them, are not the only elements bringing movement to the silhouette this spring 2026. Indeed, other elements are replacing them with just as much boldness. Like the bouquet of materials composing the spectacular skirt imagined by Matthieu Blazy for his first Chanel show, equally rich in volume and color.

Among the materials and craftsmanship used in the latest shows, we have observed a great appeal for featherwork. Seen at Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta, we also admired it in Jacquemus’s Le Palmier collection, where the designer integrated it in various ways, thus creating a more or less airy fringe spirit.

The feather has been revealed in its entirety on some pieces, and in an unprecedented confetti silhouette on others. Adding a playful side to the fabric, Simon Porte Jacquemus turned to Maison Février to create these details full of finesse and lightness.

The designer with the sunny brand had already reinterpreted fringes for his “Le Paysan” show. Notably with sorts of fringe pom-poms found on the Arlésienne skirt, recently worn in concert by Olivia Dean.

Thus, whether they are revealed in finely cut leather, unveiled through beaded or metallic strips, integrated with feathers or even macramé… One thing is certain, the fringe trend is indeed back, and everyone will be able to find their style.
