Fendi, Prada, Gucci, Valentino, Alaïa, Ferragamo… Everyone has adopted it again. The baguette bag is making a strong comeback over the past few months and continues to assert itself in 2025. The reason? Its timelessness combined with retro notes that perfectly embrace the current trend: the Y2K style. Between elegance and nostalgia, the baguette reveals itself this season in different silhouettes, and we present three models to you today!
The Baguette Bag: Chic or Retro?
Recently, we have noticed a pronounced attachment to vintage-looking pieces. Whether in clothing or leather goods, the nostalgia of the past, especially from the late 90s and early 2000s, influences our wardrobe more than ever. After the slouchy bag, which accompanied us during our last back-to-school season, it is now the baguette bag’s turn to take the lead.
An it-piece of the 1990s, its elongated and refined cut naturally gives it a vintage silhouette. Reminiscent of series like Sex and the City, the baguette is a fascinating piece due to its versatility. Indeed, even today, designers manage to reinvent it through models that can fit into wardrobes of stark opposites. The materials used and the lines given to the bag can thus quickly shift it from vintage to retro. Consequently, it fits perfectly into the Y2K style trend.

However, the baguette bag also appeals to more timeless styles, such as quiet luxury. Indeed, the finesse of the piece offers elegant lines that add a refined touch to an outfit.

Thus, regardless of your style, there will always be a baguette suitable to slip over your shoulder!
Miu Miu: The Rectangular Baguette Bag
Miu Miu has been riding high lately. Last week, we particularly talked about the success of the house’s oval glasses. Today, we stay in the retro spirit brought by the eyewear piece, but we make a detour to the leather goods department.
Indeed, on the baguette bag front, the Italian brand is among those that have reimagined its shape, either in a soft version or in rectangular models. Its creations with graphic cuts have successfully stood out in recent months. Especially by accessorizing with charms, perfectly aligning with the charm bag trend. A recipe that has been a hit and likely gave Birkin a few cold sweats.

Jacquemus: More Baguette Than Ever
Over the years and collections, the baguette bag’s silhouette has been reinterpreted in many ways. Recently, it’s Simon Porte Jacquemus, aka the king of shapes and silhouettes blending modernity and nostalgia, who has taken hold of the model. Not being new to this, we had already rediscovered the piece through the curved lines of his Le Bisou bag.
However, for his La Croisière collection, the designer continues his exploration of cuts, taking the notion of “baguette bag” literally. He unveiled a cylindrical piece, coming closer than ever to the silhouette of a well-baked baguette. In detail, we find his signature clasps, thus creating a piece that is both elegant and playful.

When Alaïa Turns the Baguette Bag into a Design Object
For the past few weeks, my Insta feed has been all about Alaïa, and more specifically, the Teckel Baguette Bag. Apparently, the marketing team has bet everything on this model, placing it at the heart of a large sponsored post campaign. And I must say they hit the mark. Indeed, this shoulder bag captivates with its minimalist smooth leather style. Both elegant and refined, it adds a structured detail to an outfit while remaining sleek and delicate.
More than just a bag, this creation reflects a whole know-how, showcased through a craftsmanship video released by Alaïa.
Additionally, the Alaïa baguette bag is a love letter to art and design. At the end of 2024, the Teckel was at the heart of a new reflection by the house, named “Dialogue 3”. On this occasion, the leather piece was photographed alongside design creations displayed in six Parisian galleries. The Teckel bag, unveiled in six formats, opened a discussion on the relationship between craftsmanship, functionality, and forms.

In conclusion: the baguette shows us that it has more than one trick up its sleeve to continue to surprise and enchant us over the years!
