Le Bon Marché X Mignonism: The Exhibition Not to Miss

This publication is also available in: Français English (UK) Deutsch Italiano Español

Do you love pink and curiosities of all kinds? Then you’re going to adore Cutism. And it’s happening at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche starting from February 26th.

Singer, composer, but also actor and illustrator in his spare time, Philippe Katerine once again dons his creator-philosopher hat to present his latest whimsy: Cutism. An exhibition is dedicated to it and it’s happening at Le Bon Marché.

See Life in Pink with Philippe Katerine

It was during the lockdown that Philippe Katerine, a multidisciplinary artist, gave birth to Cutism, an artistic movement as beautiful as it is experimental. “I started looking at things I no longer really noticed, tiny everyday things, and then I began making assemblages, drawings.

The confinement breathed new creativity into him. And as if to combat the prevailing gloom, he began sketching, photographing, and tinkering with pink objects that had nothing in common, because pink symbolizes passion for our wandering souls.

Ultimately, Cutism pays homage to beauty, wonder, and the love of small everyday things. It is a conceptual movement halfway between art, poetry, and philosophy. It can be found everywhere, in both the tiny and the monumental, like the giant pink figure, the emblematic figure of Cutism.

Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, the Playground of Cutism

From February 12th to April 24th, an astonishing exhibition is held at Le Bon Marché: Exhibition X. The goal? Break the codes by pairing brands that originally have nothing in common. These surprising associations lead to collaborations as quirky as they are avant-garde, like Pataugas x Atelier Paulin, Scholl X Eres, or even Baccarat X Pokémon.

And it is in this universe where antagonism is celebrated that Paris’s favorite department store opens its doors to the most whimsical of French artists, Philippe Katerine.

From February 26th to April 24th, Le Bon Marché becomes an exhibition space where the most singular and conceptualized creations of the founding father of Cutism will be displayed. For this, Philippe Katerine had a pink carte blanche; bubble gum-like sculptures, plastic creations, pink figure, introspective drawings… There’s a bit of everything, but most importantly, it’s all cute.

Echoing Exhibition X, the artist’s works are the result of assembling objects that are completely opposite.

And what would an exhibition be without a little souvenir? A few pieces signed by Philippe Katerine will be available for purchase: a bob hat and printed jacket, wallpaper, a hoodie, a phone case, and even a figurine of Monsieur Rose. There’s nothing like it to bring a bit of whimsy home.
