Comment savoir quelle taille prendre pour une casquette

How to know what size to take for a cap?

This publication is also available in: Français English (UK) Deutsch Italiano Español

The cap is the ultimate headwear. It is found everywhere in the world, for all occasions and for all ages. Celebrities have given this style of hat its nobility: Jean Dujardin, Brad Pitt, chef Paul Pairet, former president Barack Obama, not to mention the most popular singers. The advantage of the cap is that it looks good on everyone, as long as you carefully choose the model and size. Here’s everything you need to know about the cap.

Choose the size according to the brand’s instructions

The circumference in centimeters of your head should be matched to the brand’s cap size chart. Keep in mind that not all manufacturers offer the same sizes. For sizes in centimeters, it will be easy. Just take the one that corresponds to your head’s circumference. If you are between two measurements, take the larger one. For sizes:

  • S = 54 to 56 cm
  • M = 56 to 58 cm
  • XXL = 62 to 64 cm

Don’t worry, the site always provides the letter size (S, M, L, etc.) and the centimeter version. Of course, by choosing the right size using the size guide from the sites, you can be sure to enjoy a perfectly fitted accessory. But then you still need to choose between the different models of caps!

What are the different types of caps?

  • The Fitted: this is the original model, the one worn by baseball players. This cap has a flat or slightly curved visor, a stiff crown, and no adjustment system. This type of cap is tailored to fit your size, hence its name. This means it is very important to know your size to avoid a cap that is too small or too large.
  • The Snapback: this model has dethroned the Fitted. The Snapback cap has become the reference for athletes (baseball, basketball, soccer, rugby, hockey, Formula 1, etc.). It is easily recognized by its adjustment system at the back, whether it uses plastic snap buttons or other types of closures. This closure system allows you to adapt the accessory to the size of your head.
  • The Trucker: it symbolizes the workers’ headwear. Now a true trend, the Trucker has mesh panels at the back, an adjustment strap, and the front panels are lined with foam. All this is to allow for good breathability.

There are other types of caps like the Irish cap or Irish beret, the classic beret, the Dad Cap and the Gavroche.

A cap that fits your size and body shape

For a round face, opt for a Gavroche cap or an Irish cap. For a narrow face, choose a baseball cap or the classic beret. These are recommendations based on face shape, but the best option is to try it on and see if your face is enhanced. In some cases, a round face can look great in a fitted cap, as long as it is well-fitted and worn correctly. So, the trick lies in trying it on and how you wear it on your head.

What are the cap brands to know?

While shapes and colors define trends, the brand of the cap is fundamental. Here are a few brands you absolutely must have in your wardrobe:

  • Ralph Lauren: a men’s fashion brand that offers modern caps, especially in textiles and patches
  • Stetson: specialized in cowboy hats, this brand offers several types of caps ranging from 30 to 80€
  • Nébeau: a French brand that offers five-panel caps with a price range up to 110 €
  • New Era : an essential brand for caps, it primarily offers the NY logo
  • Von Dutch: with patterns, colors, logos, and materials, a Von Dutch cap will add a touch of modernity to your outfit
  • The North Face: the outdoor sports equipment brand also offers a collection of stylish caps

The headwear fashion is constantly changing, just like fashion in a broader sense. The latest trends in shapes remain the fitted cap, the snapback, and the trucker. But the criteria that make a cap trendy are color and decorations. To be in style, choose a headwear with patches glued or embroidered, bright colors (pink, turquoise, orange, purple, yellow…), elegant fabrics like tweed or velvet, eco-friendly materials, floral patterns, tie-dye, or paisley. While it is essential to choose a trendy accessory, don’t forget that a cap in the right size is crucial for a successful look!
