Kylie Jenner accused of plagiarism by a young designer!

Recently, we talked about the launch of Khy, the very first clothing collection by Kylie Jenner released on November 1, 2023.
There has been a little twist in the story, as Kylie is being accused of plagiarism by Betsy Johnson, a London-based designer.
The latter posted a lengthy Instagram story explaining how her products had been copied by the American star.
This is not the first time that the youngest Kardashian has been accused of plagiarism; remember. In 2017, after launching her cosmetics brand Kylie Cosmetics, the star, then 19 years old, shared photos that were a little too inspired by the work of Ukrainian artist Vlada Haggerty.
Who is Betsy Johnson, the designer accusing Kylie Jenner of plagiarism?
Betsy Johnson is the designer of the brand “PRODUCTS by Betsy Johnson” @products.ltd, whose first collection was released in September. She openly accuses Kylie Jenner of stealing her ideas without crediting, paying, or mentioning her work.
Betsy is a young artist who already has an impressive resume as a creative director, stylist, and consultant.
Ironically, she has also collaborated with Balenciaga, the absolute favorite brand of the Kardashian family, and has worked with Kanye West (Kim’s ex-husband). So let’s just say that Betsy Johnson is not a stranger to the Kardashians.
What happened?
At the time of the official release of Khy, Betsy Johnson took to Instagram with several stories where she publicly accused Kylie of copying the concept of her brand “PRODUCTS by Betsy Johnson.” The London-based designer expresses her frustration and does not hesitate to criticize Kylie for her lack of originality and honesty.
Betsy claims to have been in contact with Kylie Jenner and her team six months ago. She would have shared concept ideas, and that’s precisely where the problem lies: “We emailed Kylie and her entire team at @products.ltd with our concepts, language, and a line sheet 6 MONTHS AGO.”
The Khy collection looks very similar to that of “PRODUCTS by Betsy Johnson.” Oops, bad news for Kylie, who would rather not be dragging along a new plagiarism story.
Betsy also shared an Instagram story screenshot of her student debts while addressing Kylie. She emphasizes that unlike the star, she had to take out a loan for her studies and work to pursue her dream of becoming a stylist.
What’s next…?
That remains to be seen. For now, Betsy Johnson is a bit upset, and we can understand her if her concept has indeed been taken by Kylie and her team!
She mentions a “trash move” from Kylie Jenner and continues to address her in stories for her lack of support: “Thanks for the co-sign… F—k your support.”
Will this issue stop like in 2017, or will Kylie’s team compensate the designer to cease her legal actions?
Looking at the collections, we can clearly see that Kylie has been inspired by Betsy. The question that remains for now is whether the plagiarism is confirmed or if Kylie, who has been in contact with several designers, drew her inspiration from Betsy Johnson’s work to create her collection.
