For a few months now, a product has managed to dethrone glosses in our beauty bags: lip oils. Becoming essential, they establish themselves as the new ally for lips seeking radiance and comfort. On TikTok, they are a huge hit, racking up millions of views in videos praising their light texture, luminous finish, and nourishing benefits.
Half-care, half-makeup, lip oils embody this desire for beauty that is self-assured and self-caring, captivating an entire generation of women. But why such enthusiasm? Let’s focus on the phenomenon that is revolutionizing our beauty routines.
Lip Oils: Between Makeup and Skincare
Unlike glosses, which merely add shine (and let’s be honest, often leave lips a bit sticky), lip oils play in a different league. They don’t just beautify: they nourish, protect, and deeply hydrate, all while providing a luminous and shiny finish.
Their success is no coincidence. They embody this new vision of beauty where skincare and makeup merge. Enriched with plant oils like jojoba, coconut, or grape seed oil, they align with the skincare trend: products that genuinely care for the skin while satisfying our desire for glow and simplicity. In short, they do it all, and they do it well.
However, be careful if you’re used to minimal makeup; find the right dosage and color, as lip oils enhance volume and provide a noticeable glossy effect!
Which Shade to Choose?
You probably know this, (if not, I invite you to read this article on the color of the year 2025), mocha mousse is the color that sets the tone, both on the runways at the beginning of the year and in beauty aisles.
It is therefore wise to adopt the mocha mousse trend on your lips!
I advise you to look at the different shades of Mocha Mousse and choose one that is slightly darker than your lip color.
For a cozy winter look, latte, spicy, or caramel shades are irresistible! If you want to opt for a brown color but have very fair skin, pair your oil with a neutral or pink lipstick to avoid weighing down your makeup.
How to Use Them?
It seems simple, but lip oils are not applied like gloss. Here’s a quick explanation of two techniques:
- Use lip oil with a lip liner
You can definitely say goodbye to lipstick and gloss by outlining your lips to add more volume and applying the lip oil as a filler. This technique highlights the plump and sexy side of your lips, perfectly on-trend.
- Use lip oil as a finishing touch
Lip oils can be applied as a final touch to your makeup to enhance lip volume and add shine. It’s always better to use a pencil to define the lip contour if you opt for this technique, as the pencil line helps contain the lipstick and prevents it from feathering.
Once the outline is drawn with the pencil and the lips are filled with lipstick, apply the oil as a finishing touch, without too much moderation, to harmonize your lips!
