Micro shorts: Will you dare to wear them in 2024?

This publication is also available in: Français English (UK) Deutsch Italiano Español

In the family of micro shorts, designers are having fun competing for who can make them the shortest. Some shorts look almost like panties you just slip on.

Well, on the runway of a Fashion Week, it works, of course, but in real life? The trend is difficult to adopt, but not impossible.

I’m sharing with you some ideas on how to wear micro shorts and other alternatives to follow this trend we’ve seen everywhere in recent weeks. After all, Hailey Bieber can pull it off, so why can’t we?

Yes! We embrace it and follow the micro short trend

Of course, you are going to embrace it! Trends are meant to take risks and try new looks.

Before jumping straight into the first micro short, pay special attention to your body shape, the cut, the materials, and of course, the context in which you will wear the micro short.

How to wear micro shorts in the city?

Personally, I wouldn’t risk wearing them to work. However, you can’t deny that for an afternoon in the city and especially in the evening, sporting the same look as Bella Hadid or Hailey Bieber is tempting!

Here are the ultimate elements to consider when deciding to wear micro shorts:

  • High waist

It’s much easier to wear micro shorts when they have a high waist and don’t reveal more skin than necessary.

The advantage of a high waist? It immediately gives a chic and modern vibe that balances and softens the look.

  • A solid… or neutral color

I think we can agree that a micro short has enough personality to avoid adding any extravagances. During the day, choose a neutral color like black, gray, the color obsession of the moment, or a beautiful light tone. White is trickier to wear because it draws attention. If you love color, I suggest sticking to solid colors to highlight the piece.

  • Mix styles with a men’s shirt

Looking vulgar is the last thing we want when wearing micro shorts. To feel comfortable in your movements and to soften the overly provocative aspect of this (very small) garment, aim for a loose men’s shirt that adds a workwear touch.

Uh no…we’re not going out in nearly panties

There are sometimes trends that you don’t even want to try. It’s normal and that’s okay. There’s no need to force yourself to wear micro shorts if you’re going to be uncomfortable all day.

If the trend (which we see everywhere, we must say) really doesn’t suit you, there’s no need to force it, and there are always other perfectly good alternatives.

Good news, there are other alternatives

Trends are great, but revisiting them according to your desires is even better. If the mini short trend is really not your cup of tea, here are some alternatives that may suit you.

  • The Bermuda short

The famous cyclist shorts that brought us joy before the arrival of this super micro trend are now reimagined in mini.

  • The mini skort

An excellent alternative to micro shorts, it’s more reassuring since it combines a skirt + shorts. Even though the garment remains very short, we tend to feel more comfortable.

  • The short, flared cut

I’ll give you that it remains short, but its flared shape makes it much easier to wear.

  • The sport micro short

Yes, it’s mini, but its sporty-chic look and modern, understated design mean it can be worn anywhere, even very short. Perfect for going to the gym or for a jog during lunch break.
