The Oval Miu Miu Glasses: Emblem of the Librarian Core!

After the oversized glasses or cyclist spirit – shield sunglasses, the eyewear trend is now shifting towards elegance and longer silhouettes. Indeed, for the past few months, the optical world has seen a resurgence of forgotten shapes, featuring rounded or rectangular lines. This change stems, as always, from the popularity of a trend-aesthetic: librarian core. Between Oxford shirts, tailored skirts, and librarian-style glasses, this new trendy chapter, which began last year, is reaching its peak in 2025, with a new emblem: the oval Miu Miu glasses called Regard!
The librarian core: a moment of glory for librarian glasses
Librarian glasses have been taking over social media for a few months and have become even more prominent in recent weeks! (or secretary glasses for some models). They have become the must-have fashion accessory (on the nose, but especially in your Instagram photos), highlighting the vintage – y2k vibe defining the librarian core.
Worn by many “it-girls” and key figures in the fashion sphere, such as Bella Hadid or Emma Chamberlain, it is notably the queen of clean beauty, Hailey Bieber, who has put the oval Miu Miu glasses in the spotlight.
This last one has indeed influenced the current Instagrammable combo, aka the brown tortoiseshell oval Miu Miu glasses + Rhode lip balm.
But the acetate oval glasses are not the only ones to join the librarian core wardrobe. We also find models crafted in metal, with or without borders.
Similarly, rectangular frames stand out for their retro vibe reminiscent of “Krys glasses purchased in 2003 in the one-for-one deal: buy one pair of prescription glasses = get one pair of sunglasses free.” Here too, these prescription or sunglasses are available in acetate, like the model worn by Léna Situations. But also in a more defined early 2000s style, like the pair worn by Roxie Nafousi.
The Miu Miu oval Regard glasses: the success of the tortoiseshell pair
Showcased during the AW 2023/2024 fashion week, the Miu Miu oval Regard glasses, with their 80s silhouette, were the star pair of the collection. Priced at €370, it was later in a sunglasses version that we rediscovered them. Once again made with their tortoiseshell border, the pair has become a Miu Miu signature model. And, it has never ceased to charm, as proven today.
Now that the sun’s rays are becoming less discreet and the days are starting to lengthen, the Miu Miu oval glasses are making a comeback. And more than ever!! This trend is evident with the release of identical pairs at stores like HM and Primark (always the first to ctrl+c / ctrl+v the it-pieces).
