Patriotcore, grillz… 5 Trends from the 2024 Olympics to Remember
This publication is also available in: Français English (UK) Deutsch Italiano Español
This first chapter of the Paris 2024 Olympics has been rich in emotions and sports achievements, but that’s not all… Indeed, with blue, white, and red motifs, nail arts worthy of the MET Gala, graphic make-up, and even dental rhinestones, this event has proven to be a trendsetter like no other! Let’s revisit 5 fashion and beauty trends to remember from these Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Why has everyone embraced patriotcore?
Here’s another term ending in -core. Recently, aesthetics have been multiplying, making it hard to keep track. After the tennis core, which has been trending since the release of the Challenger film, sports are once again influencing trends. However, here, it’s not the practice that inspires, but the colors of our athletes’ flags.
Indeed, these Paris 2024 Olympics have transformed into a giant catwalk revealing the best supporter outfits. The streets of the French capital have seen jerseys, hats, make-up, and other t-shirts flaunting the colors of all nations. And this was not limited to the fan zones by the mats! No, no, supporter outfits have become the new pieces to wear throughout the day, with a great sense of pride!
These perfect supporter ensembles have become, in just 17 days, the symbol of unity and have earned their noble title: patriotcore!
Olympians, guests, and supporters from around the world have donned their finest ensembles to cheer throughout this event. While Emma Chamberlain and Kendall Jenner showed their support for Team USA, British diver Tom Daley knitted his traditional Olympic sweater. This inspired me to create a crochet bucket hat in the blue colors for the Paralympic Games!
Brands have seized the opportunity by launching their supporter collections, like Le Coq Sportif. Ralph Lauren even went so far as to release replicas of the jackets worn by the delegation during the opening ceremony. These creations were quickly adopted, particularly by Léna Situation, who just announced the opening of a new pop-up in Paris.

How the Paris 2024 Olympics brought grillz back in style?
While patriotcore presents itself as a rather “obvious” trend for these games, another trend is, quite surprisingly, unexpected. Indeed, leotards were not the only things shining on the mats this year; dental rhinestones and grillz have made a grand comeback amidst flips and twists.
Long associated with the rap scene of the 80s/90s or the Y2K style, gold dental implants, grillz, or dental rhinestones were part of a bygone era. Nevertheless, this sparkling detail has rekindled its ties with trends, especially with artists linked to music like Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Rosalia. Recently, the fashion world has given it another chance, as seen at Louis Vuitton, where Pharrell Williams reimagined it with a revisited western cowboy vibe.
Sometimes discreet, at other times bold, grillz found themselves under the spotlight during the Olympics. We saw them worn in the colors of the Olympic rings and jersey numbers by Nyara Sabally, sparkling in gold and diamonds for Jordan Chiles, or in a more subtle rhinestone version on Simone Biles.
How beauty allows athletes to express their personality?
Just because one aims for physical performance doesn’t mean they should neglect their glamorous side! On the contrary. As Sha’Carri Richardson explained in an interview, the choice of her manicure or hairstyle (color, cut…) is a way to express her personality on the track and to feel good. The athlete, who has notably posed for the Jacquemus x Nike collaboration and on the cover of Vogue, is not the only one to highlight the link between sport and beauty. Gymnast Jordan Chiles filmed her make-up routine for the 2024 Olympics on Vogue’s YouTube channel.
What make-up to adopt to have as much class as Simone Biles and Ilona Maher?
Applied by their teams or touched up with a phone on the sidelines, like Sunisa Lee, the athletes’ make-up has revealed beautiful inspirations to follow.
We note the timeless red nail polish of rugby player Ilona Maher or the simple and elegant beauty of Simone Biles, with her Fenty Beauty blush and NYX lip pencil. Also, successful bold choices, notably with graphic eyeliner strokes, as seen on Rebeca Andrade in a glitter version or on Jordan Chiles who opted for a white liner.
Be at the top of your game down to your fingertips
Elegance has extended to the fingertips at the Paris 2024 Olympics, with manicures adopting patriotcore or aiming for boldness. The Bridgerton atmosphere was revealed through the cameo spirit nails of Keely Hodgkinson, while a symphony of colors and textures captivated the manicure of Sha’Carri Richardson. Rebeca Andrade showcased a glittery polish that could overshadow the glazed donut nails of Hailey Bieber.
Hairstyles balancing practicality and glam
When it comes to hair, practicality is the top priority. However, this hasn’t stopped our Olympians from having fun with their locks throughout the competition. The opening ceremony allowed for lengths to flow, as seen with Ebony Morrison. Then, once in pursuit of gold, hair was tied back but adorned with bows and ribbons (Melissa Jefferson, Charokee Young), little beads (Noah Lyles), or braids in flag colors (Akoko Komlanvi) to add a personal touch to the official outfit.
Thus, by adopting these trends and the style of Kim Ye-ji, you will become the fashion icon for the rest of the games!
