Unveiled in the new venue of the School of Jewelry Arts, the exhibition Jewelry from the Stage<\/strong> of the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise immerses us in a golden showcase. With a focus on the history of theater and the evolution of its jewelry<\/strong>, we discover how the art of jewelry-making has transformed the fake into exceptional pieces. This installation, with its meticulous scenography and radiant pieces, has been extended until October 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Majestic Decor of the Jewelry from the Stage Exhibition of the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tucked behind a large gate on Boulevard Montmartre, the new address of the School of Jewelry Arts Van Cleef & Arpels dazzles with its charming palace-like spirit. In the courtyard of this 18th-century mansion<\/strong>, we discover workshops behind a steel glass roof. These are topped by a floor that integrates details from the past, such as a small tower and windows with intricate stained glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, we are welcomed by a lovely marriage of architectures, resonating with the knowledge shared in this space, blending ancestral techniques and innovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After climbing a grand marble staircase, we reach the exhibition space, set in a muted atmosphere<\/strong>. The first area, revealing treasures in dim light, is adorned with large drapes to invite this theme of theatricality. This is followed by the discovery of a room with a spectacular decor<\/strong>. The ceiling, rich in gilding, sculptures, and paintings, transports us back in time and gives us the impression of having entered a ballroom. The exhibited objects are showcased between panels of light creating shadow plays, resonating with the words of great actors of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every visitor shares this sense of wonder, and numerous discussions about the quality of the scenography<\/strong> have been heard in every corner of the room!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Do the Jewelry Pieces of the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise Reflect the History of Theater and Jewelry?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sketches, paintings, photographs, collections, video excerpts, and physical pieces are presented to us in the Jewelry from the Stage exhibition of the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise. Although the installation is relatively small, the chosen elements provide an interesting perspective on both the history of jewelry and theater. We trace this timeline with creations worn by great names of the stage, such as Sarah Bernhardt, Talma, or Rachel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We discover the influence of history on the choice of stage costumes, as well as the evolution of jewelry since the 18th century<\/strong>, from ornamental pieces to elements that characterize a character. The aspect of technique is at the heart of this exhibition, drawing parallels between stage jewelry and everyday pieces. Notably, how to imitate the real with the fake<\/strong>, using non-precious materials yet crafted with the same know-how and meticulousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We observe tiaras, crowns, and other adornments and accessories with fascinating details, even though they are “prop” pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
